BW Continuous Improvement begins "model sites" work; book about Continuous Improvement chosen for October Executive Meeting prework

This week marks the beginning of the BW Continuous Improvement Team’s work to help identify ways to improve material flow in four BW model sites: BW Converting-Neuwied, Germany; BW Papersystems-Phillips, Wisconsin (US); BW Packaging’s Flexible Systems-Brooklyn Park, Minnesota (US) and BW Packaging’s Integrated Systems-Akron, Ohio (US). The best practices identified through improvement events at these model sites will be turned into a BW Way playbook for adoption at production sites across the organization.

Chapman & Co. launches Truly Human Leadership Program

Recently, Chapman & Co. Leadership Institute hosted the in-person session of the first Truly Human Leader Program. This four-month course, intended for leaders outside BW, aims to elevate leadership skills through assessments, one-on-one coaching, in-person training and virtual sessions. The course covers three key areas: self-awareness, developing others and driving results, with topics including authentic leadership, coaching, emotional intelligence, trust-building and leading through change.

BW Outreach sets vision to transform business and leadership education

After a few years of working with a growing number of universities and business associations to prioritize humanistic leadership, BW has formalized its outreach efforts. Branded BW Outreach and led by Brian Wellinghoff, Senior Director of Leadership & Outreach, the program focuses on building partnerships with universities and business associations to create humanistic leaders via strategy, learning content and transformational experiences.

Recently, Wellinghoff was named Executive-in-Residence at the Emerson Leadership Institute of Saint Louis University, and Virginia Commonwealth and Gonzaga universities.

BW AROUND THE WORLD

St. Louis, MO (US) team members volunteer at YWCA Head Start

After a roof leak left the 19,000 sq. ft. warehouse for YWCA’s Metro St. Louis Head Start program in disarray, 65 team members from various platforms in St. Louis stepped up to help. Head Start, a federally- and state-funded program, provides education, childcare and family support services to income-eligible families. Over the course of three days, the team painted walls and organized furniture, household items and clothing for the childcare facilities and families they support. BW's Chief People Officer Rhonda Spencer describes the project in the video below.

Scott Fortkamp promoted to Vice President & Global Controller

Congratulations to Scott Fortkamp on his recent promotion to Vice President & Global Controller. Since joining BW in 2016, Scott has assumed increasing levels of responsibility and made significant contributions to BW's transformation. Scott has been instrumental in driving a culture of accuracy and transparency in our financial processes. He developed BW’s Financial Integrity program — which recently expanded to cover all operating companies — and introduced the “peer review” concept to strengthen our controllership and reduce financial errors.

Congratulations to Dusanka for receiving an award for Communicates Effectively. In those platforms or businesses participating in the End-of-Year Discussion phase of the Performance Cycle, team members recently received a Workday notification to complete their End-of-Year Self-Reflections by September 30th. In October, leaders are to reflect and host dialogues with those in their span of care to discuss their overall performance and assign a rating for the fiscal year. Log in to Workday to get started. Report unusual technology-related situations to the IT Service Desk

Please report these suspicious situations to ITService@barry-wehmiller.com immediately: Any usual activity on your work computer, such as changed browser settings, files created or deleted, new or unknown programs running, unexpected network activity, a ransomware notice or encrypted files. Be cautious of unsolicited phone calls that offer IT support--some team members were contacted by someone pretending to be from Microsoft or Dell Support, or from BW’s IT Service Desk. These companies will not contact you directly to offer PC support. You will not receive a call from the BW IT Service Desk unless it’s in conjunction with an in-process IT service ticket or a pre-arranged conversation.
